sample calendar page

(c)1988/1992 Ralf Schulze
Sample page of my Crazy Calendar of the previous post.

Please remember to click on the pic to see it enlarged!

Notable is that on December 25th (Christmas Day), Charlie Chaplin and W. C. Fields died on that day.

FYI: I drew the faces and lettering (month and weekday names) all together on same page but on bigger paper, and pasted in the death names.

Calendar 1993

Four years after making the original Calendar I made this one with more Famous Death Dates.

I did it because the days of the week for most months were the same as 1988 (or was it 1989?) I only had to alter January and February because of a leap year thing.

I had fun and spent a lot of time drawing this.  Every day had a different face, no repeats, and from 1 to 3 famous death dates for each day!

I printed up 250 of them and stamped them with a # ( see the zoom-in of the smaller pic of the back cover).   8.5" x 11"  (the address on the back cover is old and useless).

I sold or gave away 249 of them!
I think I had to draw one months worth of new faces for this calendar.

The Elevator Sun Flowers

(c) 1983 Ralf Schulze
My last year of College, and I took a "Public Arts" class and one assignment was to get a public art actually done, with permission and all.  So I got it to paint the elevator doors in the fine art building with this!

I was going to do the inside doors AND the outside doors of 3 floors, but All I got done was the inside doors.

What you see is 12" x 22" but the whole thing with a lot of writing on the sides and bottom (not in photo) is 20" x 30".

Oh yeah, this is India Ink and Gouache on Illustration Board.

Totem Bronze

(c)1987 Ralf Schulze
One of my earlier bronze welded sculptures. It is about 9" tall and probably weighs 10 lbs because it is solid bronze.

Scraps from the Fine Art Bronze Foundry (Tallix) welded together.

I think it is at my parents place on Long Island.

Center Part of Triptych on Paper

(c)1984 Ralf Schulze
This is the center "panel" of a three part drawing set called "Past, Present and Future"  I didn't look in the packed old portfolio completely yet to see if the other parts are there.  But I pulled this out took a picture and here it is.

It is only 26+ years ago that I did it.  So this is the "Present" from the Past!

It is approx 16" x 20" and color pencils on high quality beige paper.

It is slightly curled (from being inside the portfolio so long) and on bottom right is a hole from a thumbtack. . . . oh how wicked and cruel the world can be on old art!

Abstract Expressionism

(c)1983 Ralf Schulze
An old art school painting scanned from a photograph 5+years ago and I remember that I tried using Acrylic based caulk in a caulking gun to create the relief and then paint over it with acrylic paint and oil.

Remember the rule: oil covering acrylic is OK. Acrylic paint over oil paint is BAD!

No real title but it was easily 3 feet x 3 feet on some kind if builder's grade paper board that was 1/2" thick.  I pretty sure this was dumped by my parents about 5 years ago. Gone forever!

I still should have the old photograph which I can scan at a higher resolution someday but why bother.

Bison Herd Watercolor Sketch

(c)2011 Ralf Schulze
I just did this watercolor (that incl..some color pencil) today!  It is 6" x 4" just like the postcard (from the 80's) that I tried to emulate!  However I am going for the general texture or pattern and not the details.
Below is the postcard I used.
I gave the set of postcard and Watercolor (in a duo-frame) to my co-worker and friend Sandy Gordon!
