Re - Startness

(c)2011 Ralf Schulze

The start on something new from last weekend in C'ville

This is on 14" x 18" old slightly warped old canvas board (the absolute limit in size for any reasonable canvas board)

But I like it and it's new and I'm ready to change things!

my Brother's New Family

More than a Year ago my only brother got married. I was the best man, and I had to have a good gift also!  I am living paycheck-to-paycheck, so I decided that I would try to give as much of my talent as possible.

I labored many days on this Family Portrait and actually enjoyed the experience.

This pic is only one of many "in-process" pics I have.
The photo I worked off of is at the bottom right.  I did a sketch study (top left) and my watercolor study (upper middle).

I'll post more in the future!

Abstract Landscape Thing Again

(c)2003 Ralf Schulze
This one just flowed from me.  Blank mind, but confident. I wish I could do more that way!

It is again a favorite media-set:  watercolor, ink and Prismacolor pencils on thick (off white) watercolor paper!

This is 14" x 20" and it lives right here with me now!

Any buyers?  Name a price!

The Fish of Life

(c)2011 Ralf Schulze
A New Art Card!

Started last year with a weird old "watercolor pencil".
then slowly embellished with ink and watercolor.

2.5" x 3.5" is the originally painted size.

This is a theme I've been playng with for a few years.

Finally finished it this evening!

Finding Eden

(c)1985 Ralf Schulze
This is one of those old ones where I tried not to make an image anyone could "see" and at the same time experiment with texture and color and media interaction.  It is about 14" x 24" Watercolor ink and color pencil on high quality thick paper.

Art Card

(c) Ralf Schulze
I finished this minutes ago because I had the time.

Also inspired by my pal Dave Currier in Charlottesville, because he has some small paintings at a gallery there, and I went over to see them and him and his wife and we had a great time catching up.

This is an Art Card Original.

Standard art card size (2.5 in. x 3.5 in.)

Watercolor, ink, and Colorpencil on thick watercolor paper!

Art Card [New]

{before ink}
Art Cards have only one simple rule:  size: 2.5" x 3.5"

An ACEO is "Art Card Edition or Original"

I only make originals because I enjoy the size challenge.

This one is acrylic paint and watercolor and ink on heavy watercolor paper.

Click on the pics to zoom in!

I just finished it last night!

Bison Herd Watercolor Sketch

(c)2011 Ralf Schulze
I just did this watercolor (that incl..some color pencil) today!  It is 6" x 4" just like the postcard (from the 80's) that I tried to emulate!  However I am going for the general texture or pattern and not the details.
Below is the postcard I used.
I gave the set of postcard and Watercolor (in a duo-frame) to my co-worker and friend Sandy Gordon!

Another ACEO (Art Card Editions & Original) This is an original and the ACEO rule is 2.5" x 3.5"... so just remember that I created it at that size!

It Started as watercolor and then added micro-pen archival ink.  (seriously magnifying reading glasses were required, since my poor eyes are getting old)

"Stract" is the title...

Gorilla and Newt in the Big Room!

I found the photo that I based my ink and watercolor drawing on way back in 1982. Cool!

Interesting Art Card process

For those who like the Process of creating art (me included) Here is an Art Card (ACEO=Art Card Editions & Original) original.  Standard 2.5" x 3.5" (the size of a baseball card)

I made this about 4 months ago but lost the ink only scan on my computer (I'm not the most organized guy).  I finally found it today and decided to post the 3 images.
This is a slightly obscene side note on  a theme I've been into since 2007.
I used ink, watercolor and color pencil.

Cool Old Abstract Landscape

(c)1983 Ralf Schulze
This is an old ink and watercolor that if memory serves me is approx. 9" x 12" on watercolor paper.

But this image is from a old photograph and it is all I got. I have no idea where the original is.

But even then, it shows my "style".  I think.  Abstract images with a landscape composition.

Testing, Testing

This one from about 9 months ago, started out as a test for how the new 6" x 6" pad of smooth bristol board reacts to the media I like to use.

It turned into this and I turned into a CD cover of a mix CD.

An Abstract Story-Picture

This one is from 1985 and is one of my favorite in the style of "trying to make an abstract where I can't pin a known image-idea to".  In other words, Pure abstraction with absolutely no connection to reality except the paint on the surface.  I succeeded to me, but I am sure YOU can see things in it.
The only thing I see in it is a composition similar to a narrative painting, without the narrative.
It is 23 1/2 in. x 18 in. Watercolor, Ink and Prismacolor Pencil on Watercolor paper.
